Capitals, March 15 (SANA) The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia said on Sunday that their air defense systems intercepted several Iranian missiles and drones over their airspace amid escalating regional tensions. In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the UAE Ministry of Defense said its air defense systems had intercepted missiles and drones launched from Iran. “The sounds heard in various parts of the country were the result of air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, in addition to fighter jets intercepting drones and cruise missiles,” the ministry said. Meanwhile, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) cited Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki as saying that Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed four drones in the airspace over the Riyadh region. The region has witnessed rising military tensions since Feb. 28, amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, accompanied by Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting several countries in the region.
